The Christians of Ah Yeh village have outgrown their gathering places in each other's homes. They now are in need a larger place for coming together. Because most Akha villages are built on steep hillsides, it is very difficult to find suitable places for building churches. When your bamboo house is built on stilts up off the ground, you can stick it almost anywhere, or on any kind of slope! But if you want to build a church designed to accommodate upwards to a hundred people, you will need to find a level stretch of terra firma! A level piece of ground is a commodity that is in short supply in the average Akha village. If you do want level ground, you will have to painstakingly dig it out of the mountainside by hand! This is what the Christians in Ah Yeh village have done. The new church site is now located at the top of the village. It is a beautiful spot that provides a panoramic view of the village below. It goes without saying though, that both the view as well as the climb, will take your breath away!
