FAQ

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

You can read a more detailed list of what we believe here. To put it simply, we believe the Bible. We teach that the Bible is the authoritative, inspired Word of God, and therefore we make it our goal to teach and practice the truths the Bible sets forth. We also believe, by the way, that people matter to God. That's why we're in the business of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people.

WHAT DENOMINATION IS POMERADO CHRISTIAN CHURCH?

We are a non-denominational independent Bible-teaching church that seeks to apply the principles of God's Word to our everyday lives. We are loosely affiliated with other independent churches often known as “Christian Churches.” You can learn more about Christian Churches by watching a video by Hope International University here and by reading an explanation here.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AT CHURCH?

We recommend arriving approximately 15 minutes before church. If you are checking your kids into our Children’s Ministry, arriving 15 minutes early will allow you time to head downstairs and get them taken care of. If you aren’t checking kids in, you can still arrive early to make new friends.

HOW LONG IS THE SERVICE?

Although it can vary a bit week to week, we aim to have service go for approximately 70 minutes.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR CHURCH SERVICES?

We begin with a time of worship, which is more than just singing songs together. Our worship time also includes taking communion and giving financially out of our love for and trust in God. Please know that neither communion nor giving are required for visitors so don’t feel pressured to do either. After that time of worship, we share a few announcements of how you can get plugged into the church followed by a time of greeting one another. That is followed by the sermon and one more song of worship to end the service.

WHAT DO YOU TEACH IN YOUR MESSAGES?

Our messages are grounded in God’s Word, the Bible. They are designed to lead people to a better understanding of God's plan of salvation, and to discuss how to apply Biblical principles in daily living. Sometimes a sermon series discusses a specific topic and there are other times when we go through a book of the Bible. You are welcome to bring your own Bible (whether a hard copy or on your phone) or you can borrow one of ours if you don’t have one of your own yet.

WHAT SONGS DO YOU SING?

We sing songs from many different artists, publishers, and churches. We are less interested in a song’s style or feel and more interested in what it teaches us about who God is, what He’s done, and how He loves us.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

Absolutely! We have a great Children’s Ministry with welcoming and caring leaders who place an emphasis on the safety and growth of your child. We also have a Youth Ministry group that meets during our 9:00am service in which they share and discuss God’s Word together. With that said, we understand that it may be difficult for kids to be separated from their parents especially when visiting a new church. If you feel more comfortable keeping your kids with you at first, you are welcome to do so. All that to say, we have something great for your kids regardless of their age!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We don’t have a dress code at our church. We have some people arrive in collared shirts and slacks while others prefer tank tops and shorts. In short, there is no need to dress up. You can just come as you are.

DOES YOUR CHURCH HAVE MEMBERS? IF SO, HOW DO I BECOME ONE?

Yes, we do have members. The first step to become a member is to express interest by regular attendance. Periodically, we offer a membership class. Come and hear about the mission and ministry of our church over a light lunch. It’s a relaxed, fun gathering where we can get to know each other better and give you a chance to ask questions. After that it is as easy as filling in a simple form with the basic information we need to know about you, such as name, address, phone, and so on.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?

We know you may have more questions about our church, and we would love to answer them! You can ask those questions on the Contact Us form on this website, and we will get back to you in a timely manner. You can also call our church directly at (858) 487-7312 if you prefer.

WILL I BE ACCEPTED AT POMERADO CHRISTIAN CHURCH?

Definitely! We are not a church filled with perfect people. We are a church filled with people who have been and are still being changed by God to make a change in this world. We are a church with people from different ages and life stages so know that no matter where you’ve been or what you’ve been through, you can find a home here. So, whether you are just beginning your journey with God and are unfamiliar with church or have followed Him for years and are looking for a new church, we’d like to invite you to try ours. Who knows? It might become yours too!
